Paying With Cash

All Golden Gate Bridge tolls are collected electronically and cash is no longer collected at the Bridge toll booths. Motorists can still use cash to pay their Bridge toll. Note: Cash payments cannot be processed online or over the phone and paying in person is required regardless of the payment option. 

Using Cash for FasTrak

Get a FasTrak Account Application

  • Online: Complete the application online at www.bayareafastrak.org.
  • Online: Download and print the application at www.bayareafastrak.org and mail the completed form to the address on the form.
  • By phone: Call toll-free 1-877-229-8655 or 415-486-8655 outside the USA.
  • In person: Visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).
  • Via fax: Call toll-free 1-877-229-8655 or 415-486-8655 outside the USA to request an application be faxed to you. 

Open a FasTrak Account Using Cash

Once the FasTrak application is completed, you will need to purchase a FasTrak toll tag. You may do this in person as follows: 

  • In person: At the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).
  • In person: At a retail location such as Walgreens and Costco (visit www.bayareafastrak.org for additional retail locations). Toll tags are available for $5 and are pre-loaded with a $5 prepaid toll balance.

After purchasing a toll tag, you will need to open and activate a new FasTrak Account or add the toll tag to an existing FasTrak Account. This can be done online at www.bayareafastrak.org or in person a the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).

Note: An initial prepaid toll balance of $50 and a toll tag refundable deposit of $20 are required.

Replenish a FasTrak Account Using Cash

A cash-based FasTrak Account requires a minimum prepaid toll balance of $30. The driver feedback display located in every Golden Gate Bridge toll lane will read “Low Bal” as a reminder to add funds to your account when the account balance falls below $30.

To replenish a FasTrak Account using cash, you must do this in person as follows:

  • In person: Visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).
  • In person: Visit a a Cash Payment Location

To keep your FasTrak Account in good standing, please be sure to update your account with any vehicle or license plate number changes. Once opened, you can easily manage your account online at www.bayareafastrak.org. An account number and PIN are required to create a username and password for online access.


Using Cash for a License Plate Account

Get a License Plate Account Application

Note: A valid email address and credit card are required to enroll in a License Plate Account online. If you want to open an account using cash or a check, contact Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service for assistance. 

  • Online: Complete the application online at www.bayareafastrak.org.
  • By phone: Call toll-free 1-877-229-8655 or 415-486-8655 outside the USA. 
  • In person: Visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco, CA).
  • Via fax: Call toll-free 1-877-229-8655 or 415-486-8655 outside the USA to request a faxed application. 

Open a License Plate Account Using Cash

Once the application is completed, open a cash-based License Plate Account by going in person to the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco). Please bring the following information with you: license plate number(s); make, model, year, and state of registration for each vehicle listed on your account (maximum of 5 per account); and valid credit card number, expiration date, and security code.

Replenish a License Plate Account Using Cash

A cash-based License Plate Account requires a prepaid toll balance equivalent to at least one toll payment. If your account balance falls below this amount, you will be sent a Toll Invoice. To replenish your cash-based License Plate Account, you must do this in person as follows:

  • In person: Visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).
  • In person: Visit a a Cash Payment Location

Please be sure to have your vehicle license plate number with you. You will also need to know the number of axles. Passenger vehicles, small pick-up trucks, and SUVs have two axles.


Using Cash to Pay a Toll Invoice

To pay a Toll Invoice using cash, you must do so in person as follows:

  • In person: Visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (375 Beale Street, San Francisco).
  • In person: Visit a a Cash Payment Location
