Transfers
Transfers are automatically issued on Clipper cards (mobile and plastic) and contactless bank cards. For transfers to be applied correctly, you must tap on and off with the same card/device on Golden Gate Transit (Golden Gate Ferry riders only tap ON). Transfers are valid for three hours after first tapping on. Transfers can be used up to two times.
Within the Golden Gate System
Golden Gate Transit transfers can be used to make a round trip within a single county but cannot be used to make a round trip between counties.
- Transfers between Golden Gate Transit buses: When paying cash, paper transfers (valid on Golden Gate Transit and Marin Transit ONLY) are issued only at the time the fare is paid. When boarding, advise the driver of your destination and intention to transfer to another bus. Transfers are based on fare and ultimate destination. Travel must be within the date-time period indicated on the transfer.
- Transfers from Golden Gate Ferry to Golden Gate Transit: Transfers are automatically issued to Clipper (mobile and plastic) and contactless bank card users only; there are no transfers for cash-paying customers. Tap on when entering the ferry terminal, then tap on and tap off when boarding/getting off the bus.
- Transfers from Golden Gate Transit to Golden Gate Ferry: Transfers are automatically issued to Clipper (mobile and plastic) and contactless bank card users only; there are no transfers for cash-paying customers. Tap on and tap off the bus and then tap on again when entering the ferry terminal.
Interagency Transfers
- Transfer from another agency to Golden Gate Transit or Golden Gate Ferry: Customers receive a discount of up to $2.85 (up to $1.40 for youth/senior/disabled).
- Transfers to another agency from Golden Gate Transit or Golden Gate Ferry : Customers receive a discount of up to $2.85 (up to $1.40 for youth/senior/disabled).
- Transfers are FREE: When the connecting fare is less than $2.85/$1.40.
- Transfers are automatically issued to Clipper (mobile and plastic) and contactless bank card users only; there are no transfers for cash-paying customers.
Marin Transit Passes
Marin Transit Passes (paper ticket) provide unlimited rides within Marin County for periods of 1 day and 31 days. Passes are non-refundable, non-transferable, not exchangeable, and they cannot be used for group travel. Passes may be used on any Marin Transit or Golden Gate Transit route, but only for travel entirely within Marin County. Visit Marintransit.org for more information.
