After Friday, March 5, 2021, Golden Gate Sausalito Ferry service will be temporarily suspended and replaced with Golden Gate Transit bus service while the Sausalito float is removed for required maintenance. This temporary suspension of all ferry service between Sausalito and San Francisco, which includes Blue & Gold Fleet weekend service to and from Pier 41, is expected to last 60 days.

Alternate Transit Options

Sausalito Ferry riders have alternate transit options:

  • Golden Gate Transit Route 96: Replacement bus service (trip for trip)
  • Golden Gate Transit Route 27 and 30: Bus service between southern Marin and San Francisco
  • Larkspur and Tiburon Ferry: Weekday service to/from San Francisco

Golden Gate Transit Route 96 will operate weekdays between downtown Sausalito and the San Francisco Ferry Building from bus stops located on Bay Street at Bridgeway in Sausalito and at The Embarcadero opposite Washington Street in San Francisco (the SolTrans bus stop at the north end of the Ferry Building). Boarding or alighting at other stops will not be permitted. The full Route 96 timetable, effective Monday, March 8, 2021, is as follows.

Route 30 operates daily with stops along Bridgeway en route to Salesforce Transit Center (Mission & Fremont). Visit our Bus Schedules & Maps page for bus timetables.

Golden Gate Ferry also operates weekday service to/from Larkspur and Tiburon. Visit our Ferry Schedules & Maps page for ferry timetables.

Golden Gate Ferry is also exploring an alternative that may result in limited ferry service from another location in Sausalito to/from the Ferry Building. Updates about this alternative will be forthcoming.

Bus Fares

One-way Golden Gate Transit bus fares between Sausalito and San Francisco are as follows:

  • Adults (19 ): $7.50 cash, $6.00 Clipper
  • Youth (5-18) / Seniors (65 ) / Disabled / Medicare / Clipper START: $3.75

When using Clipper, remember to always tag on and tag off when riding Golden Gate Transit to ensure you are charged the correct fare.

Bus Capacity

To ensure six-foot physical distancing on buses, Golden Gate Transit has instituted a passenger limit of 11 riders on our larger 45-foot buses. This means that a bus may reach capacity and riders should have flexible travel plans during this time. Additional buses may be added if ridership consistently exceeds capacity.

Masks Required When Riding

Per local and federal health officials, all riders over 2 years of age are required to wear a face mask or face covering while boarding and riding in our buses. Our bus drivers wear masks to protect you – please do the same for them. Thank you for your cooperation!

Background

The Sausalito float has been in continuous and rigorous use since the mid-1990s. It is in need of immediate repairs and will be sent to a local shipyard. During the shipyard period, internal and external structures will be inspected and additional repairs will be made as necessary. The work will include renewal of paint and decking that is not easily performed while the float is in use. This work is being performed during the COVID-19 pandemic when Golden Gate Ferry is carrying about 95% fewer passengers than normal.
