The District has continued to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic as public health, and state and local government guidance has evolved. In order to keep our employees and public safe during this pandemic, the District implemented several COVID-19 response measures, including:

1. Establishing a regular schedule to disinfect buses, ferries, and facilities. View this 30-second video on our YouTube channel for more details;

2. Instituting passenger limits aboard buses and ferries to maintain physical distancing (this requirement was lifted on June 15, 2021);

3. Installing moisture barriers on all buses to provide a shield between passengers and the driver; and

4. Requiring all riders wear face coverings.

The District continues to adjust Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry service in response to the Bay Area shelter in place orders. Transit is an essential service under the orders, so maintaining transit operations is essential, but due to low ridership the frequency of service has been reduced. The District goal is to ensure that there is enough service to maintain social distancing for riders and employees, while recognizing that running empty buses and ferries would not be prudent. Find the most up-to-date schedules here. Follow the District Twitter accounts (@goldengatebus and @goldengateferry) and download Transit app to be notified of service alerts and delays.

The District Emergency Operations Center (EOC) brings together staff from operating, planning, engineering, and administrative divisions to share information and resources, coordinate actions across divisions, and chart the path forward for the District’s response. We will continue to monitor the changing guidelines from state and local authorities and will adjust our response as necessary. Thank you for your patience during these unprecedented times.
