The Golden Gate Bridge will turn 80 years old on Saturday, May 27, 2017, and we are asking the public to help us celebrate by sharing their favorite memories and photographs of the Bridge on social media!

While there will not be a physical celebration of any kind, we are commemorating this milestone on Facebook with an 80th anniversary event page and on Twitter, using the #GGB80 and #MyGGBStory hashtags. Each week, we'll share our favorite photos and stories with our many followers and fans, and it's our hope that the international appeal of the Bridge will attract visitors from around the world to join in the fun.

The Golden Gate Bridge spans the Golden Gate Strait – the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean – from San Francisco to Marin County. Its distinctive “international orange” color blends well with the span’s natural setting and provides enhanced visibility for passing ships.

The Bridge opened to pedestrians on Thursday, May 27, 1937, and to vehicles the very next day, Friday, May 28, 1937.
