Help Me Choose a Toll Payment Option
The Golden Gate Bridge is the only toll bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area that assesses tolls electronically, with no stopping at the Toll Plaza. The Golden Gate Bridge offers FasTrak and Pay-By-Plate toll payment options. At the Golden Gate Bridge, tolls are assessed only in the southbound direction into San Francisco.
FasTrak offers a discounted toll rate of $5.00. With FasTrak, tolls are assessed using a windshield-mounted toll tag and an overhead antenna, which reads the toll tag and collects the toll. FasTrak toll tags are provided with a $20 refundable deposit. FasTrak is required to use the dedicated Carpool Lane, when eligible, to pay the $3 carpool toll. Pay-By-Plate options use your License Plate number to assess tolls.
There are payment options for everyone, offering payment using a credit card, cash, check,
or money order. The information below will assist you in finding the best option for you.

I am using a rented vehicle, how do I pay my toll?
When renting a vehicle, you must inquire with your rental company directly and ask the company how they assess tolls. Some rental companies offer tolling program for your convenience and assess convenience fees, and some companies do not offer convenience-based program. It is up to you to ask how tolls will be assessed as part of your reservation.
