The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) Board of Directors recently approved the setting of a public hearing for Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., to discuss a proposal to discontinue Golden Gate Transit (GGT) Routes 92 and 93 due to low ridership.

Route 93 provides shuttle service between the San Francisco Civic Center and the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza during weekday peak periods. Route 92 supplements Route 93, travels along the Geary Blvd corridor, and extends across the Golden Gate Bridge to southern Marin County. Ridership on both routes does not meet the District's service standard, as established in the Short-Range Transit Plan.

In conjunction with these proposed changes, staff proposes to expand service on existing GGT Routes 4 and 30 to accommodate displaced passengers traveling between the Toll Plaza and Civic Center during commute periods. This supplements existing Civic Center service on GGT Routes 24, 30, 54, 70, and 101. Riders traveling via Geary Blvd will use Muni, which offers frequent service and multiple travel options that connect to GGT at the Toll Plaza, Lombard & Fillmore, and Van Ness & Geary. Click the images below for proposed Civic Center service schedules and proposed service routing, effective September 2018.

District staff will be available at the southbound Toll Plaza bus stop on Thursday, May 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. to answer questions about the proposal and to explain alternate service options.

The public hearing will be held in the Board Room in the Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza. Comments to the proposal may be submitted as follows. All comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018.

  • In person at the public hearing.
  • By email at publichearing@goldengate.org.
  • In writing to Secretary of the District, GGBHTD, PO Box 9000, Presidio Station, San Francisco, CA 94129-0601.

If approved, the changes would take effect in September 2018, with a estimated cost savings of $143,000 for Fiscal Year 2018/19. To read the complete staff report, visit /assets/1/25/2018-0426-transcomm-no4-authorizepublichearing92-93servicechanges.pdf
