On holidays and holiday weekends from Thanksgiving Day 2019 through New Year's Day 2020, come to the Golden Gate Bridge Bridge by bike, bus, or rideshare - don't drive your personal vehicle!
To reduce traffic congestion and create a more pleasant experience during peak visitation, the Golden Gate Bridge District will restrict personal vehicle parking at at the Bridge Welcome Center south end parking lot and at Caltrans' Vista Point north end parking lot. These restrictions will be in place from Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1, and from Saturday, December 21 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020. The closures begin at 11:00 a.m. and typically continue until 5:00 p.m.
To enjoy the Golden Gate Bridge during parking restriction hours:
- Take public transit - go to our Visiting the Bridge section.
- Travel by foot, bicycle, tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi, or a ridesharing service such as Lyft or Uber.
- Park in the overflow lots along Merchant Avenue, Lincoln Boulevard, and in the Presidio.
Tour buses will be allowed to park at both the Welcome Center and Vista Point lots. Taxis and rideshare vehicles will be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers at the Welcome Center ONLY—they will not be allowed to enter Vista Point. In addition, no taxi or rideshare staging or waiting will be allowed and ridesharing vehicles will need proper identification.
Electronic signs will notify drivers of the lot closures in advance of the Bridge, and signs will also be placed on the Bridge itself leading up to the Vista Point exit.
This change from usual operations is the result of joint cooperation between Caltrans (which owns Vista Point and has issued a permit for these closures), the California Highway Patrol, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.
