Golden Gate Ferry to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Fares for New Angel Island Service

web_ferry_

Golden Gate Ferry will soon provide daily round trip ferry service between Angel Island and San Francisco. At their October 22 meeting, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) Board of Directors established a new Golden Gate Ferry route between Angel Island and the San Francisco Ferry Terminal that could begin as early as late November. Per District policy, a public hearing has been set for November 5, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. to receive public comment on proposed fares for the new service.

District staff have been working with the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation for months to take over the service after Blue & Gold Fleet announced in December 2020 their intention to cease operations to Angel Island, which is expected in late 2021. Golden Gate Ferry service to Angel Island will begin as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted, reliable access to the island from San Francisco.

Once operational, Golden Gate Ferry will offer up to five round trips per day to/from Angel Island and San Francisco between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The proposed single ride fares would be set at the same fare levels as Golden Gate Ferry's Tiburon service (currently $14.00 for a single ride adult fare each way, or $7.50 each way using a stored value Clipper Card), plus the pass-thru State Park Entrance Fee, and will be available exclusively through the Clipper system. Fares for youth, seniors, Medicare recipients, people with disabilities, and groups would be set at $7.00 (50% of the adult single ride fare), plus the pass-thru State Park Entrance Fee.
