GGB Parking Lots Closed Weekends & Holidays

On weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Sunday, October 6, visitors to the Golden Gate Bridge should ride a bike, take a bus, or use a rideshare when traveling to the Bridge because Bridge parking lots will be closed.

To reduce traffic congestion and to create a more pleasant visitor experience during peak visitation, the Golden Gate Bridge District will restrict personal vehicle parking at the Bridge. These restrictions will be in place on weekends and holidays from Saturday, May 25 through Sunday, October 6. There are no planned restrictions on weekdays, as traffic is generally lighter and does not clog the Highway 101 corridor.

During these closures, personal vehicles will not be permitted to park at the Welcome Center southeast end parking lot or at Caltrans' Vista Point northeast end parking lot. The closures begin at 11:00 a.m. and typically continue until 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, such as Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

To enjoy the Golden Gate Bridge during parking restriction hours:

  • Take public transit: Go to our Visiting the Bridge page.
  • Travel by foot, bicycle, tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi, or a ridesharing service such as Lyft or Uber.
  • Park in the overflow lots along Merchant Avenue, Lincoln Boulevard, and in the Presidio.

Tour buses will be allowed to park at both the Welcome Center and Vista Point lots. Taxis and rideshare vehicles will be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers at the Welcome Center ONLY—they will not be allowed to enter Vista Point. In addition, no taxi or rideshare staging or waiting will be allowed and ridesharing vehicles will need proper identification.

The area affords many beautiful alternate locations to view the Bridge. A list of seven other lookout points can be found here: http://www.parksconservancy.org/ggb_overlooks.

The Welcome Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, and cafés will be open to serve food and drink as usual. Visitors can plan their transit trip at https://511.org or by calling our Customer Service Center at 511 (say "Golden Gate Transit")/TDD 711, weekdays, except holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Electronic signs will notify drivers of the lot closures in advance of the Bridge, and signs will also be placed on the Bridge itself leading up to the Vista Point exit.

This change from usual operations is the result of joint cooperation between Caltrans (which owns Vista Point and has issued a permit for these closures), the California Highway Patrol, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.
