Bikes & Pedestrians

red-alert
During Pacific Daylight Time, the East or West sidewalks may close one hour early at 8 pm, but one sidewalk will always remain open to cyclists. Sidewalk closures are dependent on lane configurations during ongoing construction which you can check
here >

Due to limited space and often congested conditions, the following devices are NOT permitted on Golden Gate Bridge sidewalks for safety purposes:

  • Electric scooters (E-Scooters) and similar devices.
  • Persons on roller blades, skateboards, or roller skates.
  • Non-service animals, including dogs and horses, which are being led, ridden, or driven. Service animals, such as guide dogs, signal dogs, and service dogs, are always permitted.
  • Pushcarts, wheelbarrows, and similar vehicles.
  • Drones (also known as Unmanned Aerial Systems) are banned from flying over or near the Golden Gate Bridge and other District property because they pose a safety and security risk to traffic and pedestrians and bicyclists. Drones are also banned from National Park Service land, which includes areas immediately surrounding the Bridge to the north and south.

Any person who willfully drops or throws any object or missile from any toll bridge is guilty of a misdemeanor (CA Penal Code §219.3).

We partner with San Francisco Suicide Prevention and Crisis Text Line to provide a lifeline when it's needed most. Text "GGB" to 741741 or visit the San Francisco Suicide Prevention website for help.
