Starting Sunday, August 4, Marin Transit Makes Service Improvements to Local Bus Routes

TWO new guides available now — one from Marin Transit identifying local bus service changes and one from Golden Gate Transit with regional and local bus service schedules. Be sure to grab one of each!

Marin Transit is making a variety of improvements to local bus services throughout Marin County. Marin Transit — responsible for local bus services within Marin County — contracts with several bus operators, including Golden Gate Transit (GGT) and private operators such as Marin Airporter and M.V. Transportation, to provide these local bus services. GGT also operates regional bus services operating between the counties of Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, and Contra Costa.

Beginning Sunday, August 4, as part of these local bus service changes, GGT will NO LONGER operate Routes 19, 49K, 51, 113, and 139. Marin Transit has contracted with another service provider for these routes. GGT will continue to be the service provider for all other Marin Transit local routes that it currently operates.

The Marin Transit service improvements include introducing smaller Community Shuttle buses in neighborhoods in Tiburon and Novato; expanding existing Community Shuttle routes to provide more direct connections between San Rafael and Novato; providing service to the new San Rafael Target store upon opening; providing a direct connection between Sausalito and Mill Valley; and providing more frequent and later evening service on select routes. In total, 15,000 hours of service are being added and most areas will experience an increase in service levels.

TWO new transit guides – one from Marin Transit detailing its local transit service changes and one from GGT with regional and local bus schedules – are now available on buses and from local libraries and community centers. Be sure to grab one of each!
